As a contemporary issue of the “Illustrated London News” was to describe: The Gauge being thus broken your journey is brought to a dead halt. With all your luggage and rattle traps, whatever they be in size and number, you are obliged to shift from one carriage to another. You resolve that no consideration will ever tempt you to bring your horses again by Railway where there is a “break of gauge”. This experience was shared up to a point by many junction stations on the fledgling British railway network but it was the impact of the Break of Gauge on freight traffic which most dismayed its users. The “Illustrated London News” went on to say:
Exhumation and reburial of Richard III of England
Life slows to a walking pace when cruising these liquid highways that once thronged with cargo vessels. Relax and enjoy rural views, industrial-era heritage, sunlight reflecting off water and the bird life; or exert yourself with operating locks and swing bridges. This is the sweetest spot to spend British summertime.

History[ edit ] Philadelphia to Camden[ edit ] The modern-day PATCO Speedline follows the route of several historical mainline railroad lines, some dating back to the 19th century. These railroads all terminated in Camden, where passengers could catch ferries across the Delaware River to Philadelphia. Early in the 20th century, the idea of a fixed Delaware River crossing connecting Camden and Philadelphia gained traction, and in , the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey formed the Delaware River Bridge Joint Commission to build a bridge between the two cities.
Construction of the rail line did not actually begin until , and the Bridge Line opened on June 7, Relatively short, it only had four stations: In Philadelphia, the line used a tunnel built in to serve both Ben Franklin Bridge trains and a Broad Street Subway spur designed to serve 8th and Market and the southern part of the city center via Locust Street.
The tunnel, which replaced an earlier proposal for a downtown subway loop, extended under 8th to Locust, then under Locust to 16th, but as tracks were not laid beyond 8th and Market, the first Bridge Line trains did not run beyond 8th Street into the Locust Street Subway until February 10, The agency commissioned Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Hall and MacDonald now Parsons Brinckerhoff to study possible rapid transit services for South Jersey; Parsons, Brinckerhoff’s final report recommended building a new tunnel under the Delaware and three lines in New Jersey.
A later study by Louis T. DRPA service ended on December 29, for final conversion of the line.

It’s a question that has inspired many a debate in the city over the years with only a few knowing the truth – or at least part of it.
Gloucestershire Live reporter Kim Horton was taken underground to take a look for herself of the city’s history and how extensive this network really is. Most already know Gloucester has layers upon layers of history dating as far back as the Roman times when it was called Glevum. And it has always a source of debate how much of this illustrious heritage has survived underneath our very feet.
But the truth is that, at least for me, it is far more extensive than I could have imagined. Underneath Gloucester Guildhall you can still walk about air raid shelters, cellars and underground rooms where it is rumoured important documents were stored and sealed during the world wars. Fireplace-in-the-middle-of-the-wall-in-the-Guild-Hall My tour by Westgate councillor Pam Tracey Con highlighted what could be found underneath the gate streets.
I mean they were packed. You can tell by the height of the church floors. The-walls-in-Gloucester-were-traditionally-this-close-together The location housed secret files that were discovered when a wall was knocked through.

Paul Berry After building the product for Huffington Post, and owning the product and engineering groups at AOL after we were acquired, it was clear to me there was a huge gap between what the current CMS offering gave the world and what the world needed. Five years later we are at scale, moving the needle and doing to WordPress what Airbnb did to Craigslist. Social and Centralized WordPress, Drupal, and the custom CMS solutions of the world are all independent, non-connected instances that each need to be updated individually.
There are over 87 million instances of WordPress alone in the world, and each security upgrade, feature update, and every other single thing has to be updated for each site individually. By contrast, RebelMouse is a social, centralized platform built to keep up with the speed of the tech giants. Our updates are pushed out to all of our sites at once and sometimes even multiple times a day with content creation tools integrated directly into social APIs.
We can get clients off of clunky CMSs and into the future in a matter of days. We iterate with the times and tell you what’s changing in the world, how we’ve reacted to it, and how it’s built into the updates you get from the platform.
